Technical visits

The National HVDC Centre and Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC)

Delegates will visit both the National HVDC Centre and Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC). The morning will involve presentations and an informative tour of the HVDC Centre. The Centre is a testing facility that hosts detailed models (and control/protection hardware) from multiple suppliers and from TOs/ESO; and has the expertise (and technology infrastructure) to undertake specialist studies; to support the deployment of HVDC projects and mitigate any associated risks to the reliable operation, control and resilience of the GB network.

This will be followed by a networking lunch. In the afternoon delegates will tour the Power Networks Demonstration Centre, which is an established whole energy systems research, test and demonstration environment, supporting the development and deployment of novel energy and transport technologies.

Registration for this visit will be at 9.30am on Wednesday, 1 March.

Scottish Power Whitelee Wind Farm

This is an afternoon visit to the Scottish Power Whitelee Wind Farm. Whitelee is the UK's largest onshore windfarm, located on Eaglesham Moor just 20 minutes from central Glasgow. Its 215 turbines generate up to 539 megawatts of electricity, enough to power over 350,000 homes. The visit will include a private bus tour of the farm with an informative tour guide.
